In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?

I have used and challenged forms and conventions of typical existing media products in a variety of different ways. When first creating my music video I watched and analysed a range of different professional videos for example, ‘Eminem – Stan,’ and ‘Mariah Carey – Obsessed,’ these specific music videos hold some of the properties that mine does for example the initial story line. They both feature stalkers who are obsessed with stars. I took this theme and represented it in my video. In some music videos there are features of slow motion parts were a part of the clip is slowed down in order to create suspense or to fit into lines of the song. I took this convention and embedded it within mine by slowing a part of it down in order for it to create a greater sense of drama. Another convention I used when editing on iMovie was a black and white effect which is featured quite sporadically. The black and white effect is supposed to show memories and flashbacks. By analysing a variety of music videos I realised that not many takes are long and there are normally a variety of shots that feature only for a few seconds therefore in order to follow this trend I made sure that there was a mass variety of locations and shots in order to give it a more professional feel.

My video has a large variety of close ups and establishing shots throughout, the close ups are to catch the characters facial expressions in order to show reactions and emotions. However the establishing shots are to show the range of locations and show that it has been filmed locally so that audiences can relate to it.

I have advertised my video by creating ancillary texts which are a poster and a CD cover. I have chosen to advertise it in HMV because this is a popular media based shop where many existing products are featured.

Some of the locations that I chose were not only to represent the local areas but are to try and symbolize that one of the characters is in fact a ‘star’. For example I used scenes such as the recording studio to give it a professional feel.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Audience feedback was an essential part of the analysing of my product. It was important for my to know different peoples opinions in order to see what kind of people who actually be interested in it and what everyone thinks. I had a screening of my music video in order for people to actually view it and give an accurate opinion of their first thoughts. We used a variety of different ages and both male and female in order to get a range of opinions from different people with different likes and dislikes. It’s essential that I gained not only positive but also negative feedback in order to see two different sides to people’s personal thoughts. Because of the main character in the music video being only 18 this give me an initial idea of who to target it at, it was both males and females between the ages of 16-24 because they can relate to my characters. It was target at males because they may be attracted to the star as she is displayed as an attractive celebrity and females will be interested in it because they will inspire to be like her as most girls inspire to or look up to some sort of ‘star’.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Audience feedback was an essential part of the analysing of my product. It was important for my to know different peoples oppions in order to see what kind of people who actualy be intrested in it and what everyone thinks. Its essential that I gained not only positive but negative feedback in order to see two different sides to peoples personal thoughts. Because of the main character in the music video being only 18 this give me an ential idea of who to target it at, it was both males and females between the age of 16-24 because they can relate to my characters.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

It was important to be to accept both negative and positive feedback as all good and bad critisim is needed in order for me to progress and process in my knowledge and skills involving media studies.

Evaluation

To sum my final products up I am going to create an evaluation, but instead of taking the obvious approach and creating a formal essay I am going to be creative and write this essay up in a variety of different forms by combining my media skills and knowledge to create an intresting summary.

Poster

Here are two posters that I created in order to advertise my product. I have decided to have my product be sold in HMV as it is a popular shop that people go to buy media based products for example DVD's, media related posters, or CD's. My first poster features Dillon Clift however the other one does not.

CD cover photoshoot

I have to create a CD cover to represent my music video, I therefore decided it would be a great idea to use Dillon who appeared in our music video in order for the audience to link the two. I dressed him in some trendy clothes in order for him to appear fashionable to appeal to the audience. I tried a large range of different shots and also a change of outfits to create variety.

Photographs

Here is a photograph of me wearing one of my outfits before going out shooting one of our scenes. We went with a jacket that was similar to one we seen Britney Spears wearing in one of her music videos. We thought the jacket was a good idea to use because it gives the impression I am confident and famous because I stand out wearing such a glamorous outfit. In this scene I am out walking my dog getting followed off the stalker. Because I am dressed up and wearing heels to go out simply to walk a dog is stereotypically something a celebrity would do e.g. Paris Hilton.

This photograph of Alysha, whose role in the production was the stalker, shows her wearing quite a grungy outfit. This shows that she unlike me isn’t as glamorous. We have also done her makeup to give her quite a creepy look.

My acting role

As one of my roles was acting I had to do lots of research of music videos with similar roles as ours in order to see what kind of connotations "pop stars" had in order to show them through my acting. Props that were used in this scene were the microphone and headphones in order to give the audience the impression that I am in a recording studio recording a song. This is a typical connotation of a famous singer.
